of Kitsap County Donation Form (pdf)
For over 30 years, Hospice of Kitsap County has provided for
the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients, families,
and members of our community who face life-limiting illnesses and
loss. This high quality supportive care is provided to all in need,
regardless of their age, race, gender, sexual orientation or ability
to pay. Gifts to Hospice of Kitsap County, big or small, provide
significant support for all our services and programs and make
a difference in the lives of those we serve.
What Programs Do Donations Support?
Donations to Hospice of Kitsap County are used to provide services not reimbursed by Medicaid, Medicare or private insurance. Currently, all undesignated donations are earmarked to fund the Hospice of Kitsap County Care Center, which opened on May 1, 2008. This special place of comfort, dignity and compassion is for hospice patients who are not able to remain in their own home. At the Care Center, patients are able to live their last days fully, cherishing each day while saying good-bye to their loved ones with peace and dignity. At the same time, expert medical resources ensure the highest possible level of care.
For the Uninsured
Thanks to the generous endowment of a local donor, Hospice of Kitsap County is pleased to announce the establishment of the Carol Bayes Memorial Fund. Contributions made to this fund are specificaly earmarked for patients who have no source of hospice insurance coverage. Our policy at Hospice of Kitsap County is to never turn away a medically eligible patient based on the lack of ability to pay. This memorial fund will ensure we continue to live up to our promise of hospice care for all those in need, regardless of their financial situation.
There are a number of ways that you can give
to Hospice of Kitsap County.
Gifts of Cash
The most common method of giving is through a check payable to Hospice
of Kitsap County, or making a charge on your credit card.
Checks should be mailed to PO Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383, or use your Visa or MasterCard (sorry, we do not accept American Express) by calling our office at (360) 698-4611. You may also make donations on-line by clicking on the link above and using Pay Pal. Your gift can be given in memory or honor of a friend or loved one and all gifts
are tax deductible.
Gift by Will
One of the simplest ways to distribute your estate is through a
will. After providing for your loved ones you can make a charitable
bequest to Hospice of Kitsap County of a specified dollar amount,
specific property, or a percentage of your estate.
Gift in Trust or Annuities
A trust or annuity can provide tax advantages and a lifetime income
for you depending upon the terms of the agreement.
Gift of Life Insurance
A gift of life insurance offers an opportunity to make a substantial
contribution that you might otherwise be unable to make. If a paid
up life insurance policy is no longer needed for family protection,
you can give it to Hospice of Kitsap County, and you, as the donor,
may qualify for an immediate tax deduction. If you continue to pay
the premiums on a policy after naming Hospice as the policy beneficiary,
those payments may be deductible as charitable contributions.
Gift of Real Estate
You can make a gift of a house or other real property, outright,
or in trust (perhaps while retaining the use of the property for
as long as you live). Your gift may allow you to realize a tax deduction
and avoid capital gains taxes. All gifts of real property, however,
must be accepted by the Board of Trustees to protect Hospice of
Kitsap County from liabilities.
Gifts in Kind
Gifts of personal property can provide a tax deduction for you while
benefiting Hospice of Kitsap County. Gifts of this nature may include
medical and office equipment and other items of value.
Gift of a Vehicle
We have established an arrangement with Donate For Charity to process our vehicle donations. Donate For Charity arranges a free vehicle pickup, handles all the DMV issues, sells the vehicle at auction, and distributes the net proceeds to Hospice of Kitsap County. By donating you'll avoid the headache of selling a used vehicle, help support Hospice, and receive a receipt entitling you to a tax deduction. When you're ready to donate, or want to learn more, simply call Donate for Charity toll-free at (866) 392-4483 or donate online at www.donateforcharity.com.
United Way and CFC (Combined Federal Campaign)
Hospice of Kitsap County is a United Way Member Agency. For those
of you who have United Way campaigns at work, or who donate from
home, please consider designating all or part of your contribution
to Hospice of Kitsap County. This support is invaluable!

Hospice of Kitsap County's Wish List
Children's Grief Retreat
Support groups are powerful ways of finding validation for your feelings and deriving a sense of shared experience and commonality. These groups provide support and suggestions for those on a "grief journey". At Hospice of Kitsap County, we offer a special one-day retreat for children ages 4 to 12, and their adult guardian, who are grieving the death of a loved one. For a gift of just $50, you can help a child learn how to better cope with their loss.
Laptop Computers
One of the best ways to make sure our clinicians have up to date patient care instructions and to ensure the best possible care is by keeping our patient's medical records electronically. Your donation of $1,500 will purchase a laptop computer for our clinicians to use and is a significant aide to ensuring quality care.
Staff Education
A donation of $1,500 is enough to send a nurse or social worker to a national hospice convention. These funds can also be used to ensure that our chaplains, bereavement counselors and nurses aides maintain their skills through other educational venues. Hospice of Kitsap County believes it is imperative that our patients have the most up-to-date care, which means ensuring our staff has the best training when it comes to care giving.
Bladder Scanner
Bladder scanners are non-invasive ultrasound devices used to obtain a precise reading of bladder volume. Unnecessary catheterization is an invasive and uncomfortable procedure for anyone, but particularly for those who are in the last days of life. Many hospice patients experience delirium due to a variety of medical reasons. However, since urine retention is often the cause of delirium, patients are sometimes catheterized as a way to rule out urinary retention as the cause of delirium. With a bladder scanner, our nursing staff will have the proper tool to be assured that they are providing the best possible care to our dying patients giving them the comfort and dignity they deserve. A contribution of $10,000 would allow Hospice to purchase a portable bladder scanner.
Wireless Nurse Call System for the Hospice Care Center
A $15,000 donation would allow Hospice of Kitsap County to purchase and install a wireless nurse call system designed specially for the Hospice Care Center. Residents' calls for assistance would go directly to pagers worn by the nurses on duty. This would allow for the quickest response time to a patient's or family's call for help without the installation of costly and "un-homelike" alarms and lights throughout the Care Center.
